The popular ‘Spirit of Tenterden’ food, drink and music festival has applied for Town Event status, accorded to major local events such as the Christmas Market and Folk Festival.
‘Spirit’ was first staged in 2019, attracting some 3,000 visitors over three days. Covid forced cancellation last year, but a smaller one-day event – ‘A Little Spirit’ – was successfully staged in the High Street in July.
The organisers are now planning to run the full event again, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1-3 July, 2022 and Town Event status could mean a £2,500 support grant from the council.
On Monday, 9 August the Council’s Internal committee deferred a decision pending further consideration.
