Recreation Ground Plans to be Submitted for Planning Permission

A major step forward in the exciting re-design of the Recreation Ground was taken last night (Monday, 8 June) when Tenterden Town Council’s internal committee authorised the project to go to Ashford Borough Council for planning permission.

The scheme will be rolled out on a phased basis. Work will start once Ivy Court surgery vacates its temporary offices and The Pavilion - initially loaned to them by the council for emergency pandemic use - and moves into its new building.

The plans include…..

  • A high-spec skate park, which will also attract BMX and scooter riders, informed by meetings with local skateboarders and a skate park specialist. The design will blend in with the Recreation Ground landscaping, and the skate park is in the first phase of the redevelopment scheme.
  • A youth hub, which has been presented to local young people and youth workers, housed in an eco-friendly building.
  • A children’s mixed play area, with features such as boulders, climbing walls, zip wire, trampoline and adventure park features; and
  • A multi-use games area, including new tennis and netball courts.

Phase One of the Recreation Ground project has been costed at £1.6m.
