Kent police have issued a warning to pet owners, following an unprecedented increase in the number of dog thefts.
In her report to local councils, Kate Richards, Tenterden’s PCSO, has urged dog owners to take preventative measures, including microchipping their pets; not leaving a dog outside shops, in a car or even outside at home; and not permitting young children to walk their pets unaccompanied.
Owners of boarding kennels are asked to be particularly vigilant, and people are urged not to buy dogs from unauthorised sources, such as the back of a van in a motorway service area.
