Demand for food donations is beginning to outstrip supply, and more food and money is desperately needed to keep people safely fed.
People in urgent need of food because of a dramatic drop in their income, and who may be waiting for a Universal Credit payment, can obtain vouchers for food parcels from Kent charity Family Food Bank. Vouchers are available from Tenterden Social Hub (01580 765518) or by calling 07805 840493, 07919 381827 or 07888 998874.
Shopping and collection of prescriptions for people who are self-isolating, and have no access to transport, can be arranged by calling Helping In Tenterden (HIT) on 01580 761060.
However, HIT volunteers, who will also be delivering Family Food Bank parcels to voucher holders, are reporting that demand for food is beginning to outstrip supply, and more food and money is desperately needed to keep people safely fed.
Said a spokesperson: “Every tin, packet and penny is vital. Waitrose, Tesco, St Michaels Post Office and Store and St Mildred’s Church porch all have collection bins for non-perishable foods.
“Specially needed are tinned meat and fish, tinned potatoes, long-life milk, coffee, tea and jams, all items which are non-perishable. When you shop, please consider those in need and “bung a tin in the bin”
Those who would like to help but cannot get out to shop to put food in a bin, can donate money by direct bank transfer or cheque.
