Following the cancellation of Tenterden’s VE Day celebrations on Friday, 8 May, the Mayor of Tenterden Cllr Jean Curteis is asking residents to consider supporting a new campaign
The Daily Mail-led campaign urges people to throw open their doors and windows at 9pm on Friday, 8 May – the 75th anniversary of the day which saw World War Two in Europe come to an end – and join in a chorus of ‘We’ll Meet Again’, Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime anthem.
Cllr Curteis said: “We’re sad that our own town celebrations have had to be cancelled because of Cornonavirus, but this idea may well appeal to residents, particularly the older ones, and allow them to celebrate a very special moment in our history”.
