The Town Council has been approached to set up a commercial local radio station for the town.
The application came from the operators of Romney Marsh Radio seeking to set up a similar, 24-hour web-based, station for Tenterden.
On Monday, 12 July the council considered an application for start-up funding, ranging from £474 to £1,019. Ongoing financial support for the station would come from local advertising.
Town Clerk Phil Burgess said that the scheme was an imaginative and allowable use of the council’s powers so long as there was no specific competition.
A decision was deferred for further investigations.
