Further progress on a potential new cinema at The Pebbles in the High Street was discussed at last night’s (11 May) meeting of Tenterden Town Council’s external committee.
A detailed technical report was delivered to the committee, by Tom Evans of the Tenterden Cinema Company, which included issues such as architect’s recommendations, acoustics and the potential impact on the adjacent Millennium Garden.
A company has been formed to drive the project forward and finalise fundraising plans for the predicted total cost of £3.5 million for the cinema; the council has pledged £500,000 towards the refurbishment of the Pebbles.
At last night’s meeting, five councillors – Justin Nelson, Alan Sugden, Mike Carter, Sue Ferguson and John Crawford – were elected to represent the council in further discussions with the cinema company regarding potential lease options of the Pebbles building.
