Boost for Tenterden Economy as Free Parking Scheme is Extended

The free parking scheme in Tenterden, put in place as part of the Town Council’s strategy of helping the local economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, is to be extended until Saturday, 31st October.

Originally scheduled to run until the end of August, the scheme involves 140 parking bays at the Leisure Centre for all-day free parking, and almost 20 additional bays in the Station Road coach park for three hours free parking, as well as the remaining bays in the High Street.

“This is great news”, said Town Clerk Phil Burgess. “It’s an example of how the Town Council has been working closely with Ashford Borough Council, which is the parking authority, on a strategy to boost our retail and hospitality sector which has been hit so hard in recent weeks.”

The decision comes just days after the Town Council announced Keli Nolan-Lyons as the new Town Centre and Tourism Coordinator, the first appointment of its kind by any town council in Kent.
